The Good News 20-04-03
The news is not all doom and gloom. There are constant reports of good works, companies donating food, people helping neighbours – and of course the efforts of the medical workers, for whom we pray every night.
It is evident that the global crisis has brought a surge of unity. We see the world coming together, reaching out to help. And succeeding.
How much more should the church be doing the same! What an opportunity for the church of Jesus, brought together by the Holy Spirit, to come together to preach and to act.
What a time to lay aside the unimportant! Whether we be Pentecostal or Anglican, what matters are the souls of men. Are we preaching salvation? Are we living out the Word in the eyes of men?
We’re not talking about a blanket ‘one world church’. Absolutely not! But we are talking about the true body coming together for the season we find ourselves in.
Francis Schaeffer – a Presbyterian (!) – wrote the following:
“When everything is going well and we are all standing around in a nice little circle, there is not much to be seen by the world. But when we come to the place where there is a real difference ..
– or as in our case a crisis –
.. and we exhibit uncompromised principles but at the same time observable love, then there is something that the world can see, something they can use to judge that these really are Christians, and that Jesus has indeed been sent by the Father.”
“May God . . . grant you to live in harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus.” _Rom 15:5_
