Ps Josephine takes a look at the Good Samaritan
A Small Church Online can reach just as far as a megachurch.
The gospel and our mandate of sharing it have not changed. What has changed is how we share.
From the day the lockdown started we took hold of technology and determined to use the internet for a good purpose – reaching out and connecting with one another.
For some it was a venture into unknown territory; for others it demanded work behind the scenes.
We’re a small church – OK.
We don’t have a team of teenagers to run our social media. OK.

Good News
The news is not all doom and gloom. There are constant reports of good works, companies donating food, people helping neighbours – and of course the efforts of the medical workers, for whom we pray every night.
It is evident that the global crisis has brought a surge of unity. We see the world coming together, reaching out to help. And succeeding.
How much more should the church be doing the same! What an opportunity for the church of Jesus, brought together by the Holy Spirit, to come together to preach and to act.
The purpose of the Foundation series of messages is so that you have a clear view of where we stand and what we believe regarding church.
As we move to Sunday and a time when we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper, the conviction of the unity that Jesus prayed for just before Gethsemane is emphasised.
John 17: 15-21
15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.
16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

River of Life right now could be considered to be a ‘small church’ – just the same as nearly 50% of the churches in America.
Yes, the land of mega-churches and telethons actually has that many churches with less than 100 members.
Do Numbers Matter?
People matter!
Gathering with other believers in church is a central aspect of spiritual growth. Church is where we meet to worship and serve Jesus. It’s also the place we bring people who don’t yet know Him.
A church’s effectiveness isn’t defined by the attendance – but that doesn’t mean that we should
We started with a broad look at foundations. Now we move on to the church as a whole.
We first look at the church as a whole because everything here applies when we look at our own, local church.
Just as God is immanent (permanently present and apparent as He sustains the universe), the church is permanently present on the earth. It is clear and apparent in His work, as it invades the darkness and sustains His Word.
From the time of
In the posts that follow – there will be a few each day – we’ll be answering some questions about church; vision and direction; structure and change; callings and challenges – and of course people, because that’s what church is.
1. Jesus calls the church His church.
Matt 16:18
18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
2. Jesus and His Word are one.
John 1:1-3
1. In the beginning was the
This post is a bit longer than normal, but please take a quiet moment to read all the way to the end.
We have all seen how Covid-19 has turned the world upside down. Every morning the news updates us with the stark statistics, and across the forums and Facebook pages we see a common thread of disquiet and uncertainty.
Because we have the absolute certainties of God and His Word, we can walk in the peace of His promises.
Ps 111:7-8
The works of His hands are verity and justice; All His precepts are sure.

Corona virus lockdowns are being implemented across the globe. If we can’t so much as go out on the streets, then how then are we to fulfil this absolutely clear mandate from Jesus?
There are a number of things we can be sure of:
This did not take the Lord by surprise.
Whatever the situation facing us, he never leaves us without a solution
There has been an absolute explosion of online church activity as churches adapt to social distancing with digital services.
We are seeing the technological advances of the world being used to spread the gospel in
The lockdown has just been extended for a further 15 days, which means we still have 3 weeks more (at least) of living as we are now: confined to our homes and separated from our normal social interactions.
Deuteronomy 31 speaks of Moses, and his words to Joshua, his successor. In v8 is a promise:
8 And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.”
Last Friday our opening scripture for the Group was in 1 Kings 8: 59-60. Just
